Lowering the Tone and Upping the Shanty would love you to sing with them – come along and learn fun and fabulous shanties and songs about the sea. All are welcome at our workshop and concert at IslandWorks on 16 August from 6pm.

Entry to the workshop is free to those who buy a concert ticket.

If you want to attend just the concert, doors open at 7pm.

Please note, this event is not suitable for those under the age of 11.

WHO ARE UPPING THE SHANTY?

Local women who like to get together and sing on Wednesday evenings.

Enthusiastic women who don’t see why only men can sing shanties and sing at festivals, fetes and gigs.

Community minded women who have come together to create this fabulous group.

Quirky women who like to dress up and put on a good show.

They certainly know how to enjoy themselves!

Local guys who meet on Saturday mornings to sing

Enthusiastic guys who sing shanties, folk songs and other songs that take their fancy.

Unassuming guys who sing at festivals, fetes and gigs.

Quirky guys who sing acappella and with accordion and appalachian flatfooting from time to time.

They don’t take themselves too seriously and know how to enjoy themselves!
